Shadow Ranch Estate
The seven acres of vineyards at Shadow Ranch are planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Tempranillo, Petite Sirah and a small number of Grenache vines. All of the vineyards are being farmed organically, and will be available for certification soon. The vineyards are planted in the fine grained, well drained, decomposed granite, which is common in the Fair Play region. The hilltop exposure positions the grapes to receive the cooling breezes in summer, preventing them from maturing too quickly. In the winter the hilltop exposure allows the cold air to drain and limit the damage from frost. This allows the grapes to stay on the vines long enough to develop the necessary complexity and concentration required to make great wine.
Duarte-Georgetown Vineyard
Duarte-Georgetown vineyard sits high atop the Georgetown divide about 25 miles North of Shadow Ranch. With 90 acres at 2500 feet it is one of the largest high elevation vineyards in CA. The entire vineyard site is of deep red clay loam soils which give the wines deep color and structured round tannins. Planted in 2002, John and Alexandra Duarte have created a state-of-the-art high density vineyard concieved and farmed to produce ultrapremium Sierra Nevada wines. Shadow Ranch Produces our Cabernet Sauvignon along with the Grenache, Tempranillo, and Petite Sirah from the fruit grown on Duarte-Georgetown.
Mellowood Vineyard
Mellowood Vineyard in located in the heart of the Fairplay Region. Planted in the fine grained, well drained, decomposed granite soils is the vines that produce Shadow Ranch's Syrah and Zinfandel. Latrobe Vineyard
Latrobe Vineyard is located in the westen part of El Dorado County. As our lowest elevation vineyarde, Latrobe Vineyard is planted in the deep red clay loam soils produce our award winning Sauvignon blanc. With its eairly ripening ability, the Sauvignon blanc is concentrated and ripe allowing for a long slow fermentation process that developes the complexity of premium Sauvignon Blanc.
